Hermoso lauded for launching of Zambo-Basilan broadband link

COTABATO CITY: Minister Dickson Hermoso of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) was congratulated by the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) for the successful launching of the Zamboanga-Basilan Broadband Link.

In an official communications, Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal also lauded the good accomplishment of his colleague, Minister Hermoso for  establishing also the free Wi-Fi to at least 20 locations in the Province of Basilan. “It is one big leap for a digital Bangsamoro Autonomous Region,” Minister Iqbal said.

As this developed, Iqbal also profile made a request to the MOTC minister to include the MBHTE-TESD Provincial Office in Basilan for the next roll-out and in the identification of prospective sites in the free Wifi program of MOTC where communications are among its mandate.

Iqbal said the Basilan Provincial Office and Basilan Provincial Training Center (PTC) of MBHTE  where the PTC trains around 1,000 trainees every year. He said it houses computer laboratory that is supposed to provide trainees an access to online information.

According to the Education minister due to very poor internet connectivity, the vision of digitalizing the skills training is simply unattainable. This is the reason why MBHTE is requesting from the MOTC to internet connectivity.

He added that installing a free Wi-Fi at the said location will not just improve productivity of the employees and accelerate work process, it will also fundamentally enhance the delivery of skills training. 

Iqbal also emphasized that this will benefit the unemployed and unskilled Bangsamoro who are hoping for a better future by learning new skills. MARK NAVALES
