“The relentless efforts of the combined elements from the 18th Infantry Battalion, 4th Special Forces Battalion, and the local members of the Philippine National Police (PNP), pressured the gunmen to yield,” said Brig. Gen. Fernando Reyeg, Joint Task Force (JTF) Basilan commander.
The four were identified as Karim Manisan, 31 years old; Saham Mohammad, 45 years old; Lito Manisan, 45 years old; and Ayatula Mohammad, 40 years old, all of Bohe Lebbung, Tipo-Tipo, Basilan.
They handed over four high-powered firearms including two M16A1 rifle, one M14 US rifle, and one M1 US carbine with several magazines and ammunitions.
“According to the suspects, they are aware of the charges filed against them and they are ready to face the consequences of their actions,” Brig. Gen. Reyeg added.
Reyeg said the subject personalities were turned over to the local PNP for further investigation and proper disposition.
“We will closely monitor the development of the case to ensure that justice will be accorded to the victims,” said Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, WestMinCom commander.
“Rest assured that we will continue to assist the PNP in the conduct of LESO to thwart lawlessness in the province,” Lt. Gen. Sobejana added.
