MALACANANG PALACE, Manila: The Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) assured family and friends that the government is stepping up its efforts to capture the mastermind behind the gruesome murder, which marked the first death anniversary of Brigada News FM anchor Eduardo “Ed” Dizon last July 10.
“On this day of July 10, we join in the grief and feel deep solidarity with the victim’s family, friends and colleagues of our fellow journalist, Ed Dizon, as we commemorate his first death anniversary. We guarantee that the perpetrators of this dastardly deed will be dealt with the full force of our laws ” said PTFoMS Executive Director, USec. Jose Joel M. Sy Egco.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) is continuing its manhunt for Dante Encarnacion Tabusares a.k.a. Bong Encarnacion, the alleged mastermind of the gruesome murder, and other suspects.
Earlier, the PTFoMS sent an urgent letter to PNP Police Region Office 12 to verify reports of sightings of Tabusares who was allegedly enjoying the protection of some unscrupulous local officials.
Tabusares was a staunch supporter of Kapa (Kabus Padatoon) investment scheme that was ordered closed by the government. An alias warrant for his arrest has already been obtained by the PNP for his capture.
“The issuance of a warrant for Tabusares’ arrest is concrete proof that authorities are serious and proactive in going after brazen criminals. There will be no escape from the law. I commend the PNP for tirelessly searching for Dizon’s killers,” added PTFoMS Co-Chair and Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar.
It can be recalled that Judge Henelinda Molina-Diaz of Kidapawan Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 61 earlier ordered the arrest of Tabusares under Criminal Case no. 5281-2019. A copy of the warrant was transmitted to the PTFoMS Secretariat in Malacañang.
Judge Diaz also issued arrest warrants for Junell Poten, alias Junell Gerozaga, and Sotero Jacolbe Jr., alias Jun Jacolbe, in connection with Dizon’s murder. Jacolbe surrendered to authorities but Poten and Tabusares remain at large. Jacolbe was thereafter released by Judge Arvin Sadiri Balagot of the Kidapawan RTC Branch 17 after posting a PHP500,000 bail bond.
Dizon was a veteran journalist and former news anchor of Brigada News-Kidapawan City. He was on his way home in his car after an evening radio program when gunmen onboard a motorbike opened fire on him on July 10, 2019.
The former town councilor of Makilala, North Cotabato died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds.
Egco emphasized that “the PTFoMS is on top of the situation and will be relentless in bringing justice for Dizon and all other victims of violence against media workers as a testament to the commitment of President Rodrigo Duterte to protect press freedom.”
The PTFoMS shall continue to monitor and inform the public on the developments of the investigation on Dizon’s murder. JULIET SOLIS
