Basilan Congressman Mujiv Hataman and his wife, Isabela City Mayor Djalia Turabin, have disclosed being positive of the COVID-19 virus, assuring though the public that they were physically well.
The admission has brought to four the number of members of the House of Representatives to catch the virus so far.
Mayor Turabin-Hataman, also a former member of the House representing the Amin Party-list, disclosed first their medical case in a video footage she posted in her Facebook page on August 1, saying they underwent swab tests on July 29 and showed them positive the following day.
The husband, a former regional governor of Muslim Mindanao region and currently a House Deputy Speaker, linked up lately with the media to confirm their case.
“We are waiting for the test results of our children and companions in our house in Basilan. We are currently under quarantine… We have implemented stricter health protocols to ensure that we will not spread the infection,” Hataman was quoted as saying in recent published reports.
In separate posts on Facebook, the couple said they had themselves tested on July 30 after they developed fever and what they thought was ordinary cough.
Djalia said it has yet to be determined if the city hall will be placed on lockdown.
Rep. Hataman is the fourth congressman to catch COVID-19 after Reps. Henry Villarica of Bulacan, Samier Tan of Sulu and Johnny Pimentel of Surigao del Sur.
At least 28 House of Representatives employees, two from the office of Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, were also infected.
