Bangsamoro Government’s push to extend the transition period gained additional support from the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) – Maguindanao Chapter, according to the Bangsamoro Information Office on Wednesday.
League President Datu Shameem B. Mastura, mayor of Sultan Kudarat municipality, said “Mainit ‘yung pagsuporta ng bawat alkalde dito sa probinsiya ng Maguindanao tungo sa pag-extend ng BARMM (transition period).”
During the league’s general assembly on Tuesday, Feb. 9, in Sultan Kudarat, Mayor Mastura and other LMP-Maguindanao officials, board of directors, and members expressed their support to extend the transition period and agreed to draft a resolution therefor.
“Magtulungan po tayo from BARMM, provincial level, municipal level, down to barangay level nang sa ganun ay maabot po ng ating mamayan […] yung tinatawag na development at serbisyo para sa ating mga kababayan,” said Mastura.
Bangsamoro Government’s Executive Secretary Abdulraof Macacua, who was in attendance, thanked the local chief executives for showing unity and support to BARMM.
He also explained the need to extend the transition period, emphasizing the BARMM’s status in the normalization process.
“The extension is not really about MILF (Moro Islamic Liberation Front) wanting to stay in power. We only wanted to ensure the completion of the normalization process,” Macacua said.
LMP chapters in the provinces of Tawi-Tawi and Lanao del Sur earlier passed on July 2, 2020 and January 19, 2021, respectively, resolutions supporting the Bangsamoro transition period. JULMUNIR I. JANNARAL
