BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
The Brunei government has set maximum short-term prices on whole chicken and chicken eggs for 10 weeks, effective from April 1 to June 11, 2021.
According to Brunei’s Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS) at the Ministry of Finance and Economy on Saturday, in collaboration with the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism through the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood, DEPS has set the capped prices to mitigate increasing food prices.
However, these maximum prices are not the endorsed retail price of the goods.
Retailers are encouraged to remain competitive in their pricing below the capped price and observe ethical business conduct.
Consumers are reminded to act responsibly by not engaging in panic buying or stocking up goods beyond their normal consumption level.
Brunei is also getting prepared for the Islamic festival season.
The Islamic fasting month is expected to begin on April 12 and the Islamic world will then celebrate the Eid (Hari Raya) celebrations a month later. With story from Xinhua
