A strong earthquake has hit Japan on March 20, 2021, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
In a statement furnished to the Philippine Muslim Today, IAEA quoted the Japanese Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) as saying that a 7.2 magnitude earthquake occurred at 18:09 JST / 09:09 UTC on 20 March 2021.
“The NRA informed the IAEA that according to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the earthquake’s epicentre was off the coast of Miyagi Prefecture, which is located in north eastern Japan,” said the statement.
The NRA informed the IAEA that no abnormalities were reported at the nuclear power stations located in the vicinity of the earthquake’s epicentre and NRA continues to monitor the developments following the earthquake.
The IAEA remains in contact with authorities in Japan and will provide additional public information as it becomes available. SRNY
