MAFAR to set up a P4.8 million worth of seaweeds buying station project in Tawi-Tawi

BONGAO, Tawi-Tawi:  The Ministry of Agriculture, Fishery and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR), through its provincial office in this capital town, is going to set up of a P4.8 million worth of Seaweeds Buying Station at Barangay Butun in Sapa-Sapa Municipality in Tawi-Tawi.
 
Provincial Director Aidarus Nami of MAFAR Tawi-Tawi said they have allocated the said amount for the project that covers the construction of a warehouse building and procurement of other equipment needed to operate the buying station for seaweeds which is one of the sources of economic livelihood of Sama natives of Tawi-Tawi. 

Nami also said the project aimed at boosting economic gains of the seaweeds farmers of Sapa-Sapa and the nearby municipalities.

He also emphasized that the project will also extricate the travel cost of transporting the produce to Bongao Municipality, the province’s business center, as the seaweeds buying station in Sapa-sapa will purchase seaweeds products equal to the standard price in Bongao.
 
He stressed that the project will encourage the seaweeds producers to increase production and boost their income. 

The groundbreaking ceremony were attended by  MAFAR Engineering Division Head Engr. Abdulhag Gayak, Fishery Department OIC Chief Evelyn Martinez, Agriculture Department Chief Aida Jumli, and local government officials of Sapa-Sapa. (JIJ)
