DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Z. Duterte on Thursday resigned from her regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), two days after she dropped her reelection bid in the city, state media Philippine news Agency (PNA) reported on Thursday evening.
PNA said Anthony G. Del Rosario, HNP’s Secretary-General, confirmed Duterte’s resignation through a handwritten letter sent Thursday morning.
“It is with profound sadness that I hereby tender my resignation from our beloved party. My support will always be with you and I will always be grateful for all the things you have taught me,” the city mayor of Davao said.
Del Rosario said they will continue supporting the presidential daughter despite her decision to leave their party.
“While we are saddened by her resignation, we however wish her all the best in her future plans. Godspeed po Mayor Sara. In our hearts, you will always be our Chairperson. We love you po,” he said.
“We will have a meeting regarding the plans of HNP going forward,” Del Rosario added.
Meanwhile, in a Facebook post, Davao de Oro Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy, who co-founded HNP in 2018, said Duterte called them up to inform them of her decision to resign.
“She clarified that her love and support remains in HNP,” he added.
Uy also said because of Duterte’s kindness and good deeds for Davao de Oro, they will continue to give her their all-out support whatever the presidential daughter’s decision might be.
HNP was launched on Feb. 23, 2018 with Duterte as chairperson, Davao Occidental Governor Claude Bautista as president, Davao Oriental Governor Nelson Dayanghirang as the vice-president, Del Rosario as secretary-general, and Uy as the party’s treasurer.
In July 2018, Commission on Elections granted the accreditation of HNP. (MNY with PNA)
