Lanao del Sur mayoralty candidate  arrested in Ozamis City for murder


COTABATO CITY: A mayoralty candidate of Malabang municipality in Lanao del Sur was arrested by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in far away Ozamis City based on warrant of arrest for murder last Wednesday, November 25.

CIDG Director General Albert Ignacius Ferro on Saturday identified the suspect as Alinader Balindong. He is the son of the late Mayor Anwar Balindong of Malabang municipality and the nephew of Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) Parliament Speaker Pangalian Balindong.

The suspect was also the former vice mayor of Picong municipality of the same province.  

According to Ferro, Alinader Balindong was arrested by the PNP in Ozamiz City for the murder case that happened in Malabang. 

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group recognized the suspect who is also known by his alias as Badar and they immediately arrested him.

He was captured by the joint forces of PNP-CIDG Lanao del Sur and Ozamis City PNP inside the Misamis University Medical Center in Barangay Bagakay, Ozamis City due to the validity of the warrant of arrest in the murder case issued by Judge Alberto Quinto of RTC-Branch 11 in Malabang.

The PNP-CIDG also said that Balindong is the primary suspect in the murder of the market administrator of Malabang.

However, the 67-year-old Balindong will remain under hospital arrest after his legal counsel issued an interim order with a granted motion for hospital arrest that Judge Quinto initiated last November 22.

Ferro praised the staff of CIDG and PNP for the successful arrest of Balindong on without any resistance.

Furthermore, the CIDG director general emphasized the arrest of Balindong is still in line with the implementation of Oplan Pursuit of PNP-CIDG. (JIJ)
