‘Vaccination Day’ comes with relief goods in BARMM

COTABATO CITY – The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) governance has joined the nation-wide observance of the “Vaccination Day,” enticing residents to undergo inoculation to confidently face the prevailing health pandemic with distribution relief goods.

Workers of the Rapid Emergency Action on Disaster Incidence (READi), a program of the BARMM’s Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG), staged the “Day 1” of the national event on Nov. 6, yielding 2,400 food packs to rural health units (RHUs) in 16 Maguindanao towns, according to MILG Minister Naguib Sinarimbo.

The 16 recipient towns included Datu Odin Sinsuat, Talayan, Guindulungan,Datu Saudi, Datu Unsay, Shariff Aguak, Ampatuan, Datu Abdullah Sangki, Datu Anggal Midtimbang, Datu Salibo, Datu Piang, Datu Hoffer, Shariff Saydona, Mamasapano, Rajah Buayan, and Sultan sa Barongis, Sinarimbo said.

The conduct of vaccination coupled with relief goods distribution continued on Nov. 30 in other parts of Maguindanao, Sinarimbo said.

Health officials in BARMM and Region 12 were impressed by the simultaneous conduct of vaccination drive and relief goods distribution, saying the two-pronged thrust would help increase the number of vaccinated citizens and provide foods in the tables of inoculated people during the event.

READi operations yield relief goods during special and emergency situations, boosting the efforts of the Ministry of Social Services and Development (MSSD), which is the main relief and welfare agency in the autonomous region, according to MSSD Minister Raissa Jajurie.

Apart from relief operations, the READI management is conducting a series of trainings to capacitate community and sectors’ representatives on emergency rescue services.

For the MILG, READI’s mother unit, enhancing the operational capacities of local government units in BARMM is its focal thrust.   

The MILG has recently started inaugurating municipal hall buildings, barangay hall edifices, and other LGU structures it has funded and implemented since early this year, it was learned. (AGM)
