CAMP NAVARRO, Calarian, Zamboanga City — The conduct of advocacy and case audit on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and Human Rights were emphasized to key officers and enlisted personnel of Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) during the recent visit of the director of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Center for Law of Armed Conflict (AFPCLOAC).


Brig. Gen. Joel Alejandro Nacnac, AFPCLOAC director, told the military officers and men that there is a need to periodically conduct workshops and conferences to constantly remind the military personnel to stick to the laws of armed conflict as they work for the attainment of lasting peace and progress in the communities.
Brig. Gen. Nacnac who was received by Brig. Gen. Arturo Rojas, Deputy Commander for Operations of WestMinCom, at the Laong Laan Hall in this military command also emphasized the felt need to monitor IHL violations committed by the enemies of the state and reports such violations to the Commission on Human Rights (CHR).
He said the violations include the utilization of child combatants and recruitment by the Communist Terrorist Group.
The two generals also discussed the importance of adherence to the International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights during the conduct of military operations. (JIJ)
