LUMBACA UNAYAN, Lanao del Sur – Constituents of Lumbaca-Unayan municipality in Lanao del Sur province sought the help of President Duterte to settle the political feud engulfing the town and save the municipality.
They also called on Bangsamoro Chief Minister Murad Alhaj Ebrahim, Lanao del Sur Gov. Bombit Adiong, and other authorities to help uncover the truth so that justice will prevail.
In front of the newly finished town hall, about a hundred constituents staged a rally on Monday, May 16, to show support to the town newly elected and proclaimed lady mayor and her family and colleagues who are facing murder raps.
Mayor Jamalia Dimatunday Aloyodan and some of her relatives are charged with murder raps in connection with the ambush in June 2020 of the late mayor Somerado Guro, and his wife Rohaifa in Iponan, Cagayan de Oro City.
The wife immediately died while the mayor succumbed days later.
Aloyodan denies involvement in Guro’s ambush
In a media statement, Aloyodan strongly denied involvement in the ambush and death of the late mayor and his wife.
She said she is a woman, and she could not do nor plan the killing of the late mayor Guro and his wife.
She also called on President Duterte, BARMM chief Minister Ebrahim, Gov. Adiong, and other authorities to help in the conflict in Lumbaca-Unayan.
Aloyodan, then a vice mayor, assumed by law of succession as mayor of Lumbaca Unayan following Guro’s death.
In the May 9 elections, she ran for mayor and won in Lumbaca-Unayan, a 6th class municipality composed of nine barangays with over ten thousand populace situated in the province’ western side.
The rallyists believed the elected mayor and her family are innocent and asked the people of Lumbaca-Unayan to stop spreading fake news, but to help instead to bring the culprits to justice.
Stop spreading fake news
Norjanah Undac Sharief, a women’s sectoral leader, asked the people of the town not to spread wrong information about the case.
“There is no truth that the Aloyodan family and the municipal administration are the culprits in the death of the Guro’s,” she pointed out, adding, “Nobody could ever pinpoint them (Aloyodan family) to be involved in the crime.
She joined the constituents call on President Duterte and the newly elected president and vice president (BongBong Marcos and Sara Duterte) to intervene immediately in this conflict.
The people of Lumbaca-Unayan needs peace and prosperity, she said. “Without peace, there could be no prosperity,” she added.
Re-elected and Incumbent Councilor Laurenti Espinosa said the case against the Aloyodan family is a political harassment. (See related video story)
Espinosa said the case was already dismissed because the Aloyodan family especially the new mayor is not truly involved in the ambush.
He said it is re-opened as political harassment at the time of the election in Lumbaca Unayan which was honest, orderly, and peaceful.
Saying Allah knows that the Aloyodan family is innocent, Espinosa asked the people to help each other to solve this problem. He encouraged for a peaceful dialogue.
On his part, Mohammad M. Alim, senior citizen’s affairs officer, expressed heartaches in seeing how the town is disunited due to political rivalries.
Having worked with the municipal government of Lumbaca-Unayan since its creation in 2005 to the present, Alim said all the past and present administrations of the town are good. “The only problem is political grudges,” he added. (TRS Team)
